THIS IS QUESTING
WHO ARE THE QUESTERS?
We are a community dedicated to keeping history alive through education, preservation of meaningful places, and funding restoration projects. From local landmarks to national scholarships, THE QUESTERS work to honor and share the stories that have shaped our collective heritage.

“It’s Fun to Search and a Joy to Find”
- Jessie Elizabeth Bardens, Questers Founder, 1944
Founded on the belief that studying the past enriches the present, THE QUESTERS began as a group committed to researching and learning about antiques. That mission soon expanded (beyond artifacts and collections) to include the broader preservation of places, buildings, and stories that define our shared heritage.
Today, THE QUESTERS organization has reached over 5,000 members in over 418 chapters across the United States and two Canadian provinces. Local chapters are the heart of the organization, gathering regularly to explore history, fundraise for preservation efforts, and bring community stories to light.
OUR HOME IN PHILADELPHIA
THE QUESTERS international organization calls Philadelphia its home. The building was constructed in 1802 and contains many donated antiques and books. THE QUESTERS acquired the property in 1967 and have done extensive restoration, bringing beauty and dignity to this historic home. The three-story Federal-style brick building is certified by the Philadelphia Commission as historically significant to the area.

EDUCATION
Education is how THE QUESTERS make history accessible, inclusive, and alive for everyone. Education is participatory and inclusive. It invites storytelling, digital engagement, intergenerational learning, and partnerships with schools, museums, and creatives. Current Questers and younger audiences want to experience history, not just hear about it.
RESTORATION
Restoration gives history a second chance—and gives THE QUESTERS a deeper sense of purpose. Restoration is a hands-on, visible way for members to make a difference. Questers may participate in local revitalization, partner with other nonprofits, or lead grassroots projects that restore not just objects, but pride in place and history.
PRESERVATION
Preservation isn’t just saving physical things; it’s saving the meaning of them and history that produced them. We protect what connects us. Preservation among members of THE QUESTERS goes beyond objects to include intangible history, community stories, disappearing skills, and overlooked voices. It’s about empowering members to become caretakers of both heritage and memory.
