the questers mission statement:
"questers keep history alive by supporting preservation, restoration and education"

All Quester members belong to a Chapter that meets once a month usually from September through May. Local Chapters come together to form their State/Provincial Quester groups and all are part of the International Quester organization. At Chapter meetings the highlight is a program focusing on a collection, historic story or historic site, often presented by a Quester member, local collector or other expert. A meeting may take place in a Quester home, public place or at a historical site like a museum. State/provincial meetings focus on a theme at a larger, accessible venue, sometimes at a historical venue. The yearly Quester International Convention enhances the experience for members with tours, speakers, and mini lyceums. The popular tours highlight the convention hosts unique history and historical sites, along with emphasis on local Quester preservation and restoration projects.
THE QUESTERS always welcome new members!

Preservation and Restoration
Preservation and Restoration are twin tenets of The Questers organization. P & R projects, selected by Quester Chapters, help preserve historical buildings, sites and artifacts for the benefit of the local and global community. P & R awards are given out every other year (even years). At the 2016 International Questers Convention, 25 chapters were presented with P & R Awards totaling $77,857.52 for their preservation and restoration projects. The winning chapters were from 14 states and 2 Canadian provinces. The projects were very diverse, including restoration of the decking in the First Engineers room on the Liberty Ship SS John W. Brown, acquisition of 1860's clothes, and the restoration of concrete gate #2 at Fonthill Castle. |
This comment from Bob Vila in Preservation Magazine, December 2013 echoes Questers' commitment to local preservation and restoration:
I think people need to look beyond their houses and focus on their community - understanding what they have down the street, whether it’s a 1920s movie palace, or a church that no longer has a congregation. I think it would be great if people spent more time and energy understanding their immediate communities and figuring out how to preserve the more important buildings that are in danger. |
